GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

Name: BERGAMOT (Citrus aurantium bergamia)

Chemotype (aromatic molecules): d-limonene, linalyl acetate, linalool.

Extraction method: Steam distillation.

Distilled part: Fresh bark.

MORPHOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION

Citrus fruit which grows on small trees up to 4,5 metres high known as bergamots. The leaves are smooth and oval while the fruits are small and closely resemble oranges that turn from green to yellow when ripe. This tree of the Rutaceae family originates in Persia. It comes from the hybridisation of two species: the lime tree and the bitter orange with a bittersweet taste. It has a very aromatic peel.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS (ORGANOLEPTIC):

  • Colour and appearance: light yellow to greenish-yellow to dark yellow liquid.
  • Scent: Characteristic.

CHEMICAL FAMILY OF THE AROMATIC MOLECULES: D-limonene, linalyl acetate, linalool.

Belongs to the group of MONOCYCLIC MONOTERPENES.

CULINARY ACTIVITY:

Bergamot flavour stands out for being a bit acid and slightly bitter. Its fresh and characteristic smell is widely recognised, especially in countries of the former British Commonwealth of Nations, where bergamot was used to scent the well-known Earl Grey and Lady Grey teas.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Take it always diluted, 1-2 drops in 250 g of nourishment (juice, tea, salads…). Maximum 3 times a day.
